Conspiracy theories are generally nonsense. I will go for incompetence over conspiracy almost everytime.

At first glance the claims about the PNAC - Project for a New American Century - smack of a typical conspiracy theory. But this seems different. On closer inspection it is not a conspiracy at all, but rather a published program based on deeply held fundamentalist beliefs.

This page provides a resource to useful links and a diary of the unfolding Iraq war in the way that it seems to tie in with the objectives stated.

If what you read here is indeed true, I think this is perhaps one of the most disturbing developments in the world today.

What Is the PNAC?

The project appears to be an organisation that represents the beliefs and objectives of a large number of powerful Americans. Many of which are now in power in the current administration.

The project sets out how it sees America's role in the world and the actions it should carry out to realise this.

Clearly they do not believe themselves to be evil or misguided. They are the good guys.

This most dangerous group of powerful people are putting their agenda into action. Post 9-11 they have seized the opportunity to perform what they believe is their duty to exploit the power they have.

Check out the sources page for a number of links to what appear to be genuine PNAC publications.

What is this role?

Here is a taste of what the PNAC is about

  • we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future
  • we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values
  • we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad
  • we need to accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles
  • This doesn't sound too horific by itself. But think on it a while. The final point covers an awful lot.

The comments page provides links to a number of articles that analyse the motives and actions of the members of the project.
